APA Asian Integrated Energy Market” to hold its First meeting in Moscow.

The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation will host the meeting of the APA Sub-Committee on Integrated Energy Market in Asia on 15-16 May 2008.

The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation offered generously to host the first meeting of the Sub-Committee on Asian Integrated Energy Market. It has offered local hospitality (accommodation and local transportation) to two persons from each participating Member Parliament.

In response to a letter by the APA Secretary-General on the subject of the venue of the meeting, the Vice-President of the State Duma, the Honorable, Valeriy Yasev confirmed in a letter of invitation dated 12 march 2008, that the State Duma will host the meeting in Moscow from 15 to 16 May 2008.

The APA Secretary-General will present a report to the meeting. He looks forward to active participation of an APA Delegate and an energy expert from each participating Member Parliament.

On 19 November 2007, the APA Plenary adopted Resolution, APA/Res/2007/08, on the Asian Integrated Energy Market. It adopted a Plan of Action for Promotion of Asian Integrated Energy Market contained in document APA/ Res/2007/08/Annex. It also decided to establish a Sub-Committee to meet at least once a year to consider the best strategies leading to the objectives delineated in the Plan of Action.

The Plan of Action aims to contribute to the stability of world energy market by focusing on ways Asian countries can help each other, lower the cost and expect greater stability and benefit over the long run, without prejudice to market competition.
