Tehran denies reports of Iranian company repairing mosque in Shusha

Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday denied reports of an Iranian company repairing a mosque in the Azerbaijani city of Shusha occupied by Armenia.

“We do not confirm reports of an Iranian company repairing a mosque in Shusha,” Bahram Qasemi, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Monday, APA’s Tehran correspondent reported.

“We have no information of the presence in Karabakh of any Iranian engineers. We do not confirm this,” he said, adding that some media outlets tend to disseminate untrue and baseless information due to the ethnic and regional tensions in the Caucasus region.

“There’s no change in Iran’s policy in relation to Azerbaijan, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenia. Our position is stable and we will keep it up like this,” the spokesman said.

As for Israeli PM Netanyahu’s recent visit to Azerbaijan, Qasemi said it is a domestic affair of Azerbaijan’s since it is an independent country.

“Nonetheless, I believe Azerbaijan shouldn’t have accepted this proposal. We’re witnessing Israel’s destructive actions and provocations. They seek to cause problems among Islamic countries,” the spokesman said, commenting on Netanyahu’s visit to Azerbaijan.

Earlier, Armenian News – news.am reported that an Iranian company began repairing a mosque in Shusha after receiving a request from the ministry of economy of the illegal regime created in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. In this regard, the sides signed a document on Dec. 7.
