APA Secretary General Met with the Chairman of Tajikistan House of Representatives

APA Secretary General met today with Mr. Fazali Idizoda, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Tajikistan, on the margins of the APA Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs in Dushanbe.

During the meeting, Mr. Idizoda underscored Tajikistan’s strong interest in expanding cooperation with parliamentary institutions and organizations at both the regional and international levels, emphasizing the role of parliamentary cooperation in promoting dialogue, mutual understanding and closer relations among nations.

Referring to the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran, he noted that the two countries share a common language and rich cultural heritage, which provide a valuable foundation for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Tajikistan Chairman of the Parliament also highlighted the commitment of the President of his country to expanding international cooperation and expressed Tajikistan readiness to contribute actively to parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation through regional and international parliamentary mechanisms.

Regarding the APA Standing Committee meeting, the Chairman expressed satisfaction with Tajikistan’s hosting of the gathering and noted its particular significance as it coincides with the Day of Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan. He assured that every effort had been made to ensure the successful conduct of the meeting.

Dr. Majidi congratulated the Chairman and the Parliament of Tajikistan on the Day of Parliament and expressed appreciation for the country’s warm hospitality and excellent arrangements for hosting the APA meeting. He reaffirmed the APA Secretariat’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Tajikistan and its Parliament.

The APA Secretary General particularly highlighted Tajikistan’s contribution to the Assembly’s institutional development, including its support for the establishment of a Training Centre for Parliamentary Diplomacy. He also welcomed Tajikistan’s initiative to submit two draft resolutions on the Culture of Water and the Culture of Peace, both of which received the support of the Standing Committee.

Dr. Majidi further emphasized the importance of exploring the establishment of a specialized study and research centre dedicated to the APA and parliamentary cooperation in Asia.

Highlighting the vital role of parliaments at both national and international levels, Dr. Majidi noted that Tajikistan’s hosting of the Social and Cultural Affairs meeting was particularly significant given the country’s rich cultural heritage, distinguished civilization and tourism potential. He stressed that these attributes provide a meaningful setting for advancing the APA’s work in the social and cultural fields.

Both sides underscored the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in creating channels for dialogue, building confidence and promoting peaceful cooperation among countries.
