APA Standing Committee Meeting Held in Dushanbe
Law makers present in Dushanbe at the invitation of the Parliament of Tajikistan to attend the APA Meeting of Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs convened a very successful gathering yesterday with participation of 21 delegations from the Member Parliaments.
Hosted at the invitation of the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dushanbe meeting constitutes an important milestone in the implementation of the APA’s programs of activities for 2026 after six months of suspension of the Calander of events adopted in Manama during the 16th APA Plenary
The inaugural ceremony opened with the address of the Chairman of the House of Representative of Tajikistan, honorable Fazali Idizoda , who gave a welcome address to the participants and thank ed them for their participation at this meeting.
He highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and its effective role in the enhancement of parliamentary cooperation at regional and international levels.
He also hoped that this APA Meeting held for the first time in Tajikistan can serve as a strong platform in favor of cultural diversity and advancement of cultural aspirations.
Dr. Ahamd Al Saloom attending the meeting in the capacity of the Representative of the APA President also addressed the meeting.
He said Asia’s social and cultural diversity is a source of strength and should be supported through greater parliamentary dialogue and cooperation.
Parliamentary diplomacy he added, has an important role in bringing Asian countries closer, promoting mutual understanding and addressing common challenges.
He underlined the role of APA and said APA, as a important parliamentary platform can serve as an effective institution for collective Asian parliamentary action and for developing initiatives that respond to the common aspirations of Asian peoples.
He underscored the role of the APA in translating parliamentary dialogue into concrete initiatives addressing shared social and cultural priorities, while promoting cooperation among Member Parliaments in support of human development and stronger ties among Asian peoples.
APA Secretary General as the last speaker in the inaugural ceremony highlighted the importance of parliamentary dialogue in fostering mutual understanding, strengthening cooperation and bringing the peoples of Asia closer together.
In this context, he recalled the initiative endorsed by the 16th APA Plenary Meeting concerning the “Decade of Cultural Dialogue in Asia”, stressing the potential of the initiative to provide a long-term framework for advancing intercultural and inter-civilizational understanding across the continent.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to consider two new draft resolutions submitted by the Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, including proposals relating to the Culture of Peace and the Culture of Water.
This initiative was presented as potential areas for further parliamentary cooperation and as subjects capable of contributing to the broader objectives of cultural dialogue and sustainable cooperation in Asia.
The Standing Committee discussed a range of matters falling within its mandate and considered draft resolutions and related proposals submitted for its consideration.
The discussions covered issues of social and cultural cooperation, preservation of cultural heritage, human development, women’s participation in parliamentary life, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and other areas of common concern. These areas are also reflected among the Committee’s established fields of activity.
The meeting further served as an important forum for delegations to exchange national experiences and legislative perspectives and to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation among Asian parliaments.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a complementary channel for promoting dialogue, confidence-building and mutual understanding among Asian countries.
